About Us
Our son, Corporal Mark Wright, 27, a paratrooper with the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment stationed in Helmand Province, Southern Afghanistan, was killed in action on September 6th 2006. Mark entered a minefield in an extraordinary attempt to save the lives of other injured soldiers, but sadly Mark lost his life during the incident. Mark was awarded the George Cross, one of the highest awards in the UK for acts of gallantry.
Although we are both devastated by the loss of our only son, we know that Mark would have wanted something positive to come out of this tragedy. Mark was a committed, dedicated soldier who loved being a Para, but most of all he loved the camaraderie. He would approve of his name being associated with a charity dedicated to helping ex service men and women overcoming not only the visible but also the invisible wounds of war and conflict.
We know that war and conflict are extremely stressful events, and that the life threatening events associated with combat often have detrimental effects on not only the physical, but also the mental, social and emotional health and well being of our serving men and women. Therefore the Mark Wright Project is dedicated to providing support and services to help ex service men and women in overcoming post conflict issues.
